I am looking into getting a new big game rifle as some people may know from past questions but now i need to know what make and model i should get. I chose the 300 wsm. I was thinking of getting the browning a-bolt stainless hunter or stainless stalker. But alot of people told me to get a remington model 700. Why? i heard they were accuarte but are they way more accurate then the models i just named? Which one

  1. You really need to make a personal choice here, as the rifles you named will all do their job well. Since the 300 is a bruiser, you need to make sure the fit is perfect for you, and that means shouldering and possibly firing as many as you can to see what you like. I personally have never liked the Browning bolts actions and prefer the Remington 700 (have three of them).

  2. All modern rifles are as accurate as the shooter.  I shot both my bro-in-law's A-Bolts (.243 & .270) and they were every bit as accurate as my Remington 700 in .25-06.  So get which ever one you like better.  Can't go wrong with your first choice the Browning A-bolt.  Can't go wrong with the 700 either.  So just get the one you like better.  Scope choice is probably going to be a bigger factor here than rifle or caliber choice.

Leopold variable scopes are good unless you want to pay more like $500 for a Zeiss, or such scope.

    Happy hunting.

  3. Like I told you the first time you asked, you can't go wrong with the Remington 700.* It will do everything your asking about, but only if you have one, and do your part.* The rifle will not disappoint you.*

  4. most people trust the ..remington..better than other brands. browning , ruger , and savage make good rifles also. i personally chose ruger. i bought my dad a savage. my brother has a marlin. the best thing you can do is take a look at them all and see what feels best in your hands. don't be shy , take each gun and feel it up {  place it like you were going to fire it  } see what each has to offer.  good luck .

  5. The 700 has been used worldwide as a Sniper Rifle, so as to accuracy I would trust it over any other.

  6. most custom gun builders that build match rifles like to utilze the action from REM 700 bolt actions. I could go through the 58,600 web addresses that google turned up when I searched for "remington 700 accuracy" and quote why they are so accurate or you could just take my word for it. I know of a 700 that was made in '69, that shoots groups that are just as tight as the day it was made, h**l it might even be better now that the barrel is seasoned. Just read the first two articles I provided, and you'll see why it is the best selling rifle ever.

  7. I have to agree with DJ. It's a very personal choice. I have several 700's, too, and just plain don't like the looks of the Browning. Aesthetics count.

  8. The Remington 700 is plenty accurate for big game.... Yeah yeah yeah some of those other fancy big name rifle companys make a gun more accurate but whats accurate???  So what if the elk or moose gets hit maybe 1 inch over or lower compared to a Browning? Its still dead.... Up an inch - down an inch its still dead.... The only time I think it would make any difference is if you were doing sub MOA target shooting or trying to hit prairie dogs at 350 yards -- and your certainly not going to do that with a 300 Winchester Short Mag....... Savage, Ruger and Kimber all make a fine rifle in 300 WSM... I wouldnt drive yourself to crazy about the brand. Be more concerned with the optics and honing your skill as a hunter....
