Riga Oud slaughters Oliver Thorpe in Men’s Singles encounter at New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup
Riga Oud, who is a budding shuttler from New Zealand and is representing Auckland II, showed a strong performance and gave a severe lesson to Oliver Thorpe of North Harbour II in Men’s Singles encounter at New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup 2012 on Friday,
August 10, at Hamilton, New Zealand.
The aggressive Riga, who remained incredible throughout the tournament, put up superb show of top quality badminton and easily toppled Oliver with a huge margin without showing him any respect.
Riga was one class above his rival on court as he played with wonderful ease and did not worked extra hard to beat his rival in straight sets in a spectacular fashion.
In the meanwhile, Oliver found himself quite helpless against the power play of his in-form opponent. He failed to match the pace of rallies and also could not stop the progressive run of his rival. He eventually lost the battle in a lopsided fashion without
making his presence felt.
The in-form Riga started his run in opening game in a commanding manner as he played attacking badminton while remaining focused on the board and took an early lead without facing any resistance from Oliver.
The powerful drives and impressive smashes helped Riga to take a stunning lead on the board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Riga continued his killing run without showing any mercy to Oliver. He was in complete control of rallies and pushed his rival in all areas of the court.
The impressive Riga maintained his upper hand in the entire opening game and took it with a huge 21-9 score on the board.
In the second game, Oliver tried to play better badminton but he could not cope up with the pace of his opponent and against remained struggling to take the bird early.
Until the break, the confused Oliver was again far behind on the score board.
After the interval, Riga did not lose his focus and also maintained the pace of rallies at the highest level. He played positive badminton and took the second game with a superb 21-11 score on the board.
The spirited Riga ended up this Men’s Singles battle in straight sets with an inspiring margin of 21-9 and 21-11.
