Rigel Fernandes rules All India Junior and sub-junior Amateur Golf championship
The on-going All India Junior and sub-junior Amateur Golf championship witnessed a 14-year-old boy Rigel Fernandes carding an astounding score of 72 after the first round of the championship.
The event was held at the Eagleton Golf Resort in Bengaluru and held a tough brawl in groups A, B, C and D. Representing Group B, Rigel Fernandes displayed a good iron and putting play in the first round of the event which handed the 14-year-old an early
lead over others.
As for the grouping, Group B represented golfers from ages 13 to 15 while Group A and Group C consisted of golfers from 15 to 18 years and 11 to 13 years respectively. Group D on the other hand catered golfers below 11 years.
Fernandes carded an even par that easily became the best score of the day in the age II category. The 14-year-old plays at the IMG Golf Course Academy situated in Florida and stood third at the US Kids World Golf championship in addition to several other
tournaments in the past as well.
According to statistics, the 14-year-old collected three bogeys from holes 11, 14 and 15. Fernandes also adorned his scorecard with three birdies from holes 1, 4 and 16.
Other than Fernandes leading his category, Group A was led by Saqib Ahmad and Ainesh Ahluwalia from KGA and DLF Gurgaon. Their youthful display placed a total 74 at the leader board and pushed them to the top with a 2 up in the end.
At 3 up, golfers Trishul Chinnappa and Chikkarangappa claimed a place at the leaderboard and carded a 75 in total representing KGA and Eagleton.
Over in Group C, round one of the tournament was led by two golfers, Piyush Sangwan and Prakhar Asawa. The golfer from DLF and Rambagh Golf course, Jaipur led their category after carding a brilliant score of 72 and 73 on the fields.
At 4 up, Karandeep Kochar from Chandigarh stood with his 76 while the fourth place sided with Tanvir Kahlon and Arjun Prasad. The golfer from Delhi and Hyderabad claimed number 4 spot with their nine up 81.
Further down the leaderboard, Kelly Rao and Viraj Madappa followed the cult intently with their 75 and 76 while the fifth place observed a tied pair with the likes of Jairaj Sandhu and Shivnaren Srinivasan.
30 players from category A and B and 21 players from Category C appeared at the second round of the Championship along with 30 boys and girls from D Category for a second day contention.
