Righetti boys volleyball team defeats St. Joseph by 3-0 on Thursday
The sport of volleyball has been able to achieve a huge amount of success in a relatively short amount of time.
Volleyball did not take long to affiliate itself with adults who later took it up professionally at the university level. Noting the popularity of the game, universities began to inculcate vigorous training programs and started organising tournaments. All
of these endeavours were aimed to develop the potential of the aspiring players who took volleyball seriously.
The success of the game was not limited to the universities of the nation, it become popular in schools as well. Seeing the eagerness in the young athletes, many schools organised teams consisting of both girls and boys. Presently, numerous schools across
the nation feature top of the class volleyball teams that harness their skills in various tournaments.
One such tournament reached its close when the Righetti boys volleyball team played against the St. Joseph on Thursday. The tournament whose title they were competing each other for was the PAC 7 championship. In a match that went on to three sets, the Righetti
boys were able to defeat their opponents in a clean sweep. The Warriors accomplished this remarkable win over the Knights while playing at the Hofschulte Gymnasium.
By the time that the night was out and the Warriors were celebrating their well deserved win while the Knights were lamenting the chance they had just let slip by right out of their hands, the scoreboard read as 25-23, 25-13 and 25-12.
The Warriors took some time in the first set of the game in order to get started. This put the initial set in some jeopardy, but the Warriors managed to pull off a win at 25-23. Diana Strasbaugh, the coach of the Warriors, commented on this trend displayed
by the Warriors in the following words, “There were a couple little things. But they figured out what they needed to fix by the second game and they did it.”
After having won the first set of the game, the Warriors started the second set oozing with confidence. Capitalising on the momentum built during the earlier win, the Warriors were able to take the lead early on and keep it for themselves. The Knights tried
to close in the gap but the Warriors kept pushing on ahead. For each time that the Warriors had the serve, they were able to score at least three points on it. As a result, the second set of the match was bagged by the Warriors at 25-13.
Likewise, the third set also went smoothly for the Warriors, who kept the pressure on the Knights all through. As the set reached its final stages, the Warriors put on a 21-8 run that lead them to seal the deal at 25-12.
