I've played baseball for like six years playing moslty in the in-field i usually play second but on my all-star team my coach puts me in the outfield during all-stars(i played second the whole regular season) because of my speed but i hate the outfield and the whole regular season(13 games) i make only two errors we have two other second basemen who make lots more errors(they both can play outfield) though both have a stronger arm then me. during the all star games(four games)I make 2 errors in the outfield so i question my coach. was this the right move to keep me in the outfield?

  1. You might not like it, but it's the coaches decision. He probably put you there because of your speed.

The only thing I can tell you is to take advantage of it. Learning new positions will improve your game. Hey your an all star, play with confidence and good things will happen.

  2. If a ball gets by the second baseman, the outfielder will back him up. If the ball gets by the outfielder, it is extra bases for sure. Baseball is a team sport where no one defensive position, short of pitcher, is any less important than another. If you are a great infielder, you can stop the ball, and that is very important in the outfield too. It may be the case that the outfielders playing infield were not as strong at grounders as you were.  The Coach is the ultimate authority on the bench, and it is his team that wins or loses. You are there to learn and have fun. If you do your best at any position, you can feel good about the game, weather you win or not.
