Right One to get back to winning ways in the Jaipur Stakes
Christophe Clement trained 6-year-old gelding, Right One, is to make a second appearance in the Grade 3, $150,000 Jaipur Stakes at Belmont Park over a distance of seven furlongs against seven other 3-year-old and up colts and geldings on 8 June, 2012.
E. Trujillo trained 6 to 5 choice for the Grade 3 Jaipur Stakes, Ponzi Scheme, will only run in the race if it’s taken to the main dirt track if there is any rain around.
The first time, Right One, ran in the 2011 edition of the Jaipur Stakes, he won it fair and square, defeating the likes of Yield Bogey in second and Evolutionist in third with the winning time of 1 minute and 21.87 seconds under jockey Javier Castellano
on 16 July, 2011.
Ghislaine Head owned Right One has a good prep race leading up to the Grade 3 Jaipur, when he finished a solid third in the Grade 2 Commonwealth Stakes over the Keeneland’s poly track coupled with jockey Garrett Gomez to winner Lonesome Street.
The Grade 2 Commonwealth Stakes was also run at seven furlongs, and it was Right One’s only start over synthetic surface in his eight career starts.
Last year after winning the Grade 3 Jaipur Stakes at Belmont, Right One was sent to Toronto to run in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile at Woodbine’s turf course, but came short to winner Turallure in the stretch as Courageous Cat finished second.
Right One will be the 2 to 1 favourite to win the Jaipur Stakes, and will break from post number 5 under jockey Julien Leparoux, who was on Right One’s back on the horse’s debut race.
The second choice will be the Grade 2 Commonwealth Stakes runner up, Bergerac, at the 5 to 2, who is recently acquired by owner Paul Pompa.
“He comes in off a little layoff and not by design,” said trainer Chad Brown said. “He missed an overnight race that got rained off the turf, so he missed his prep. He’s an older horse with plenty of career starts under his belt, though, so at this age he
maintains his fitness.”
