Right Tonsil is very swollen & has huge white spots..?

I have Amoxicillin (medicine doctors give for tonsils) already at home, so I thought theres not point waiting at a doctors office for hours to get the same medicine I already have here. It just started yesterday, the right tonsil is VERY swollen, with HUGE white spots covering it. The left side is perfectly fine. It is soo hard to swallow, and it's making me feel really sick.

Is this tonsillitis? Should i see a doctor even though i have amoxicillin here at home?

  1. im thinking strep throat.

  2. STREP throat go to doc and throw away toothbrush!

  3. could be strep could be tonsillitis. had a friend once who took a prescription for tonsil and turned out not to be the right thing she had to end up having her tonsils drained with a big needle, also there are different strains of strep that call for different prescriptions strep can also cause heart problems in as little time as 72 hours, seeing a dr may seem like a wast of time but it may be worth it in the long run. Good luck

  4. strep throat honey

  5. very typical tonsillitis. It may be unilateral but it can eventually involve both sides as well.

The bacterial infection will increase and you will get the sore, scratchy throat.

AMX will help control the infection in the blood and tissues.

Rinse with Listerine or very salty solution of water and salt and it will kill the bacteria on contact.

If this is a chronic condition for you, you may have some more complicated infection possibly fungal as well.

If this is a sudden thing, most likely this is a bacterial infex'n.

For me, I only rinse w/ saline sol'n b/c it is cheap and I mix regular table salt in a very concentrated sol'n with water. I gargle and spit out many times each hour. The salt kills the bacteria and you want to keep rinsing b/c the bacteria are multiplying very quickly.

The soreness in the throat I use the chloraseptic spray to numb the pain. This combination allows me to avoid using any Rxs at all. I am a chiropractor and believe in the most natural remedies possible. Drink plenty of fluids as well and get lots of rest. Take hot showers to encourage a fever. The fever will increase the body temperature b/c it is the body's natural way to heat kill the bacteria. Tylenol is an antipyretic and prevents you from reaching a fever. If you let the fever rise up and break, you will get over the illness faster.

Avoiding AMX allows me to eat food and digest normally. If you take the AMX, it will kill the bacteria in your intestines and interfere with ability to digest and absorb nutrients so you become even sicker and prolong your recovery time.

  6. Okay either strep throat, tonsillitis, or your  uvula are inflammed eat soup, yogurt, orange juice, don't try and eat hard things like toast,or candy, or meat. Just soft serves. try and rest, get some sleep and go to any nearby doctor incase it's serious even though it might not be better safe than sorry. And it's not your Tonsil it's your Uvula

  7. It's usually not a good idea to diagnose and prescribe medicine on your own.  Also the medicine you have at home could have expired by now.  What's the date on it?  I highly suggest you see a doctor to accurately diagnose what is wrong.  While you are there you can ask if next time you can just take the medicine without coming in, but I can tell you now from past experience that they will tell you to see a doctor every time.  (that's what the nurse told me when I took medicine I just had at home; it's better and safer to see a doctor).

  8. strep throte or nothing i would just wait a couple days and go on the amoxicillin and see if it goes away

  9. Sorry to break the news but it sounds like you've got a throat infection. You need to make an appointment with your Doctor to get the appropriate medicine as you should never self-medicate.

  10. That is strept throat or tonsilitis. See a doctor before taking any medication

  11. This sounds like a streptococcal infection to the throat.

You must get this investigated quickly!

The reason why it is potentially dangerous is because your body's inbuilt immune system attacks the streptococcall infection.....

    ........Wonderful....

...unfortunately not. the protein structure of the bacteria is very similar to your own healthy heart tissue. consequently once the infection has been dealt with the immune system attacks your own perfectly healthy heart tissue as it confuses this with the foreign invader and you consequently can end up with rheumatic heart disease.

This is a process called molecular mimicry.

Its entirely possible that you would be given Amoxycilin by your GP but you really should get him to have a look as he may do a swab and may give you a more appropriate medicine.

  12. Sounds like strep.  If you've had it happen a few times, definitely see a doctor, if this is like a first time occurance, you might consider seeing the doctor, but unless it gets worse, just take the anitbiotics, drink hot soup and tea, and try to get plenty of rest and take it easy.

    Hope you feel better.

  13. Alright, here we go with people that don't finish their antibiotics. Never take old medication for one reason medicine does not go bad it loses its effectiveness. Another reason sometimes certain medications can have adverse effects with some viruses or infections. If you were running a fever lately you could have strep. If not  it could be allergy related. Your best bet is to go to the doctor because a few antibiotics will not cure what you got. It could lead to a super-infection then your up sh creek.

  14. you should go to the doctor the stuff you have at home maybe expired and for medicine to work correctly you should take it until the whole bottle is gone even if you are feeling better

  15. i used that but it did not help, i got quincy or how you spell it i dont know, i was bed bound for a week and because i could not eat or even drink solids i lost a stone,im from ireland so im not sure what a stone means to you as you measure in kilos or something like that!! but i felt very sick and had huge white lumps that was on one side of my throat and then within an hour spread to my other side, my throat closed up and could not breathe. had to get tube down my throat and loads of antibiotics

  16. sounds like strep throat, see a doctor, consider getting them removed... i had mine taken out it was a minor surgery and well worth it...
