Right equipment for gene therapy?

I was just curious as to what stuff scientists use to program virus (RNA) with DNA? I mean that would be pretty hard to do on a cellular scale...

you use bacteria that have specific genomes and insertion points for the desired DNA or RNA and it gets cloned

gene therapy can be done in a number of ways though not just a virus

plasmids can be used

even this thing called a gene gun which shoots a pellet with DNA on it into cells and you hope that they get translated
