so im right handed but i have a solid jab with my right hand also. When i try and jab with my left its kinda flat, it doesnt have the same snap as my right. What should i do practice jabing with my right or train my left?also when i spar i get hit more often with a right hook when im in southpaw(right hand jabbing) then if im in orthodox. its weird cause the right jab feels great but i dont wanna get rocked, and if i switch to orthdox i dont think ill have that much power

  1. If you feel more comfortable and fight more effective from the southpaw stance, then that is the stance that you should fight in.  For some, there lies an advantage in having your strong hand be the leading hand because it gives you a stronger jab that is easy to hook and uppercut off of.  Here are some examples of right handed fighters who chose to fight as southpaws:

Chad Dawson- current WBC light heavyweight titleholder

Winky Wright- former junior middleweight champion

    Marvin Hagler- former middleweight champion

    Michael Moorer- former heavyweight champion

Manny Pacquiao- current super featherweight champion

  2. you just need to keep on punching your left jab until it does become stronger. I used to not have such a good jab and now it is my most used punch. try shadow boxing just the jab and also just shadow boxing the jab with a small weight in your hand. hit the heavy bag a lot also. and over time it will get better

  3. Do what is comfortable.

If you like jabbing with your right, then learn southpaw and learn how to block with your left while you jab with your right.

It takes time, but you will get it.

Now, if you are willing to change to orthodox, train your left till it becomes like your right, just as hard and you have that snap.  So now, you are deadly with both hands.

  4. Well, you are not the only one who is right-handed as uses the right to jab with. Winky Wright fights in a southpaw stance, leading with the right jab, but his right is actually his stronger hand. At least that's something he has admitted.

It wouldn't hurt to learn other stances, but ultimately do what feels comfortable to you.

  5. if your more comfortable fighting southpaw, stick with southpaw.  As a conventional fighter i hate fighting southpaws because they have such an advantage. (they get to spar against nothing but conventional fighters)

The trade off is that because your southpaw you have an a bit more of a opening with your left hand, but so does a conventional fighter who you fight with. But as you gain more experience, it will get easier for you not to get hit with the conventional fighters right hand and youll be experienced enough to use your left hand more effeciently.

If your getting hit with the right hook a lot just remember to keep your left hand stuck to your jaw. And try paying more attention to your opponents right hand, also pay attention to which way your moving. Many trainers think its very important if your a southpaw to try and get on the outside of your opponents jab. Some trainers think its less important, either way where you are positioned makes a HUGE difference in what punches you will or will not get hit with and what punches you can let off.

WHatever you decide to do, jab is the most important punch in boxing and if you feel you got a good string/fast jab, then thats a great place to build your boxing style.

  6. practice your right jab and then practice your left and study the difference in the right one,do it again and again and again.  Gain more of a physical awareness of your left side , defense too. Maybe you could practice, standing southpaw utilizing your jabby and transitioning to a orthodox while you advance or retreat with your opponent.

  7. that's great! you're right handed using righthand for jabs... you know just what to do? let your ooponent thinks that your a southpaw... use the right hand jab smoothly... then give him a big blow using that right... i also suggest that you practice your left in giving hard punches rather than trying them for jabs!
