  1. margaret thatcher is possibly the best p.m. this country has ever had and is fully deserving of a state funeral .unfortunately tony and cherie would probably use this as an excuse for them to have one and with their track record would sell tickets and write a book the money grabbing b*****ds

  2. Press Assoc. - Saturday, August 2 02:42 amNo decision has been made to grant former prime minister Lady Thatcher a state funeral, a senior Cabinet minister said.

Reports last month suggested that representatives of both Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the Queen were in touch with Lady Thatcher's office to put in place arrangements to make her the first premier since Sir Winston Churchill to be given the honour.

But Leader of the Commons Harriet Harman, who as Labour's deputy leader has been "minding the shop" during Mr Brown's holiday this week, said that the stories were not accurate.

Ms Harman declined to say whether she thought that the former PM should have a state funeral - normally reserved for monarchs - but said she had been told by other senior ministers that no decision had been taken on the issue.

"There is no arrangement on this and those stories are not accurate," Ms Harman told The Guardian newspaper.

Reports that the former Conservative leader would be given a state funeral sparked controversy, with the proposal welcomed by supporters, while opponents argued she was too divisive a figure as prime minister to merit this state-funded national tribute.

Concerns were also raised that insufficient soldiers would be available to line the streets as her coffin was taken to St Paul's Cathedral.

There is no indication of any current concern for the health of the 82-year-old, who as Margaret Thatcher was prime minister from 1979 to 1990.

  3. I've got sky news on and it hasn't said anything about it so I would say no shes not died. But the state funeral has been discussed for sometime now I think it was in the papers last week.

    Edit

Heres a link from the mirror newspaper about 3 weeks ago concerning this matter

  4. She won't get one babe that's a fact.

  5. After what she did to this country i should think she doesn't deserve a state funeral OR a statue somewhere in London?

  6. They've been talking about this for ages, as she's getting old and has had health problems. State funerals are planned for years in advance so they can be put into action quickly as and when the time comes.

It's just one of those debates to get people arguing about politics. Churchill had a state funeral but it's not standard practice for former Prime Ministers.

  7. I think she should get one right now, dead or not.

  8. no she isn't dead - yet.  but shouldn't be too long :-).  She is seen as a great women who - not by me i have to add.   destroyed the working class in the early 80's, She sat by and let men starve themselves to death, she went to war,and thats just for starters so quiet honestly she shouldn't get state funeral - why should we pay for a state funeral when she destroyed the state i say just stick her in a box and forget her !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry about that

  9. The latest I heard was that Harriet Harmen was saying that no decision about a state funeral for Maggie has yet been reached.

    It's just think and talk about . . . .
