Right now I am on a longboard, and I wanna switch to a shortboard, is it gonna be hard? Right now I am on a 9'6 and a 10'0, and I wanna switch to a 7'8 or something. Also I am thinking about getting a sponsor, so do they give sponsors to longboarders? Thanks so much. =]

  1. I almost agree with Colton (above), but suggest you go with a hybrid fish in the 7'0" to 7'6" range.  Look for wide (20" or even a little more) and about 2.5 inches thick.  It's a 'step-down' board and will help you transition to an actual shortboard.  I do not recommend just going straight to something 6'0" - 6'6" in length - too much adjustment to paddling, timing and riding.  If you're determined to get down to a real shortboard, then buy the hybrid used, surf it for a few months and then take the next step (you shouldn't lose any money buying used and then reselling it provided you don't ding it up).

  2. try a fish, it is a longboard in a short board size. it has thick rails and its wide. so it is great learning to get used to short board size

and once you start to get good it is also GREAT for learning how to turn like a shortboard because it is SOO loose.

it also teaches you good smooth turns short board turns

  3. if you cant ride a shortboard yet, and i mean a shortboard(under 6' 6") it is doubtful you are good enough to get sponsored for longboarding, even longboarders can ride shortboards
