Question:

Right pupil dilates more than my left -- seems off centered. Problem?

So, I've noticed for a while now that when I look into the mirror ( with the light above the mirror, both eyes seem to have equal light reaching them) my right eye dilates while my left one remains contracted.

It's hard to tell, but the dilated pupil also seems to be off center slightly.

Could be unrelated:

I also recall having sharp eye pain ( I didn't note which eye it was in ) and I have been having brief ( 1-10 second ) headaches on the right side of my head randomly.

  1. Some people naturally have two different sized pupils (anisocoria), but if you know that your pupils were the same size before and now they are different, I would get this checked out.

Also, look to see if the difference between the pupil sizes is constant.  Is the right pupil bigger in both dim and bright light?  If yes, then it may not be something to worry about.  If not, I would definitely recommend seeing an eye doctor.

There are a lot of problems that can present with unequal pupil size or a pupil not dilating and constricting as it should.  Or like I said, it may be normal for you.  I recommend seeing an eye doctor; you should get your eyes checked once a year anyways.  :)  Good luck!

  2. Don't wait, go get checked out.  As the last post said, there are many things that can cause what you you are experiencing, but go make sure it is not something that needs immediate attention.  A common problem that causes the symptoms you are experiencing is Glaucoma, which can quickly lead to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly.
