Right speaker wont work!?

I just bought a yamaha 5.1 surround sound system and the surround right speaker will not work, and its not the speaker cause i switched the two wires and it works in the left slot, what could be the problem?

  1. The question is, did you play the left speaker in the right slot. If the Left speaker didn't play in the right output then the amp might be bad but check 1 more thing. Make sure the cables plugged from source component to receiver is plugged all the way in. This is usually the problem. If you have checked all red and white RCAs to make sure they are plugged in and you still have a problem and If the source is analog RCAs then switch the red and white feed to the receiver from the source. For example if you are playing a CD then switch the red and white cables on the back of the receiver. If the problem switched to the other speaker when you do then the problem is in the source or the cable. If you then switch the red and white on the back of the CD (or whatever source your sound is comming from) and the problem switches again then the problem is the source. If it stays the same then it is the cable.

    Remember to consider your source. If you are playing something on TV and the feed is mono, you will only hear the left speaker.
