Riichi Takeshita powers his way into Men’s Singles quarter-final at US Open Grand Prix Gold
Japan’s impressive shuttler Riichi Takeshita stole the limelight as he penetrated into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating Chia Hsin Wan of Chinese Taipei in an interesting round-of-16 battle at the OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Wednesday, July
4, in Los Angeles.
The in-form Japanese player, who has been impressive in all matches in US Open, continued his staggering run against his talented Taipei opponent and wrapped up victory in a decent manner.
On the other hand, Chia Hsin was in all sorts of trouble in opening set but he showed his class in the following game to make the score levelled. But he could not cope up with the perfection and power play of his Japanese rival in ending phase of final set
and eventually lost the battle in rubber games.
Takeshita started his run on court in a confident and authoritative manner as he played with impressive speed and took a striking lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Takeshita continued using his attacking shots against Chia Hsin who had no such weapons to counter the fireworks of his rival.
The Japanese shuttler easily won the first game in a striking manner with a huge margin of 21-9.
Nevertheless, Chia Hsin showed a stunning performance in the following game when he showed his brilliance and played with precision this time to take a huge lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Takeshita tried his best to play attacking badminton but his wrong selection of shots dogged his chances to make a comeback in the set and he lost it with an 11-21 score on the board.
The final game was thrilling when both men produced their best strokes on court and remained toe-to-toe on the score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Japanese changed his strategy and played fast and attacking badminton which helped him to manage a reasonable lead. He maintained the difference in the ending phase and won the set with a margin of 21-17.
Takeshita emerged as winner of this thrilling encounter in 51 minutes with a 21-9, 11-21 and 21-17 score on the board.
