Rikke Moeller Pedersen wins Women’s 200m breaststroke gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Rikke Moeller Pedersen of Denmark won gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Friday, November 23.
The Danish veteran dictated terms to her opponents in the eight-lap breaststroke discipline as she went full rampant in the race and secured the title.
Pedersen faced no trouble from her following swimmers from the start and cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 17.26 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Marina Garcia Urzainqui of Spain, who was more than three seconds slower and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 20.57 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Ganna Dzerkal of Ukraine, who stayed 1.37 seconds apart and completed the podium by winning bronze medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 21.94 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by f***y Lecluyse of Belgium, who stayed 0.24 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 22.18 seconds.
Lecluyse was chased by Jenna Laukkanen of Finland, who stayed 0.58 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as fifth position holder by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 22.76 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was gained by Dilara Buse Gunaydin of Turkey, who stayed a full body length away from upsetting her preceding swimmer and taped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 23.69 seconds.
Gunaydin was chased by Noora Laukkanen of Finland, who stayed only two arm-strokes behind and concluded her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 24.08 seconds for seventh place.
Laukkanen was followed by Irina Novikova of Russia, who was half a body length behind and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 24.66 seconds.
In addition, Pedersen expressed happiness over her victory in the 200m event and said that she would struggle hard to continue the same in future.
