Rikke Moeller Pedersen wins Women’s 200m breaststroke gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Rikke Moeller Pedersen of Denmark clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on concluding day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday, December 16.
The Danish swimmer remained comfortably ahead of her opponents over the finishing end as she paved her way towards the finishing wall for the crown.
With her impeccable pace, Pedersen remained full body length ahead of her closest swimmer and transpired on the finishing blockade for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 16.08 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Laura Sogar of USA, who remained 0.85 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 16.93 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Kanako Watanabe of Japan, who stayed two and a half body length behind and tapped the wall for third position by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.39 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Maria Temnikova of Russia, who stayed 0.37 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.76 seconds.
Temnikova was chased by Andrea Kropp of USA, who was only two arm-strokes behind and surfaced on the finishing wall for fifth place by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 20.08 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Martha McCabe of Canada, who was 0.62 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.70 seconds.
Similarly, McCabe remained Tera van Beilen of Canada, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower from her former finisher and completed her race in seventh place by posting an effort of 2 minutes and 21.11 seconds.
Eighth fastest spot of the event was secured by Alia Atkinson of Jamaica, who was 0.53 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 2 minutes and 21.64 seconds.
Furthermore, Pedersen received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize ceremony of the session.
