  1. Rimac is a very old neighborhood near downtown Lima. This was the place were the viceroys and noble people lived during the colony. It was impossible for the pirates to invade Rimac because they had to cross the Rimac river to get there and the bridges that crossed the river, could only be reached if you passed through the fortified city of Lima (now downtown Lima).

Rimac in quechua means "Soundfull", because this river is very strong during the raining season in the mountains (Nov-March). If you observe this map, you can spot 2 bridges (Ricardo palma & Santa Rosa).

It's an interesting place to visit, for there are many tourist attractions like the Bullfighting plaza (400 years old), old churches, the park were nobles spent their recreational time, an old beer factory, etc. This was also an italian neighborhood during the first half of the 20th century, but today is a poor neighborhood and not a nice place to be at night.
