Balaclava Barry is coming into this battle with a couple of comprehensive wins under his belt. The audience at Shelbourne Park saw him winning a couple of A5 event with plenty of ease.
He clinched the top rank by staggering 13 lengths, before grabbing another win by 10 lengths. Both wins were at the lower grade, but he made it look so easy that the connections are not reluctant to bring him up to the top level.
Similarly, Burgess Special is in tremendous form these days. The black dog has been unbeaten since his debut, as he captured the top rank on all three occasions. Just like Balaclava Barry, the son of Duke Special tasted success quite comfortably.
Even though he is making a huge step up in class, the form he showed lately makes him a strong option in the opening round of the championship.
Both hounds in an excellent shape, but lack of experience at this level looks to be a concern. It creates a mega opportunity for Ringtown Snowy, who was second in an open race last time out.
The white and black dog is returning to action after a gap of more than five weeks, and will be fresh. P. Hennessy’s charge recently made a fine outing, covering an area of 324 yards in 18.02 seconds.
The son of Head Bound has a decent experience of running in the higher grades and therefore, it is hard to overlook his chances.
Apart from the abovementioned trio, no hound will be able to attract the punters. According to the plan, the 525 yards race will be kicked off at 21:30 GMT.
It carries a cash prize worth €125, which will be given to the ultimate champion. There are three giants in the line-up, thus a dramatic event is on the cards. We wish the best of luck to all the hounds.
