Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United still have work to do in the UEFA Champions League against Schalke
Manchester United defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 has insisted that his team still has some work to do in the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Schalke despite a 2-0 away win in the first-leg. He added that the tie is not won yet and the Germans will still be a threat at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will host Schalke in the second-leg of the Champions League semi-final at Old Trafford on Wednesday, May 4. The Red Devils won the first clash 2-0 at the Veltins-Arena courtesy goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 in the second-half.
Ferdinand has warned his players that they are not in the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley just yet, and that they have to take the German team seriously. He stated that Die Knappen have proved this season that they can be dangerous in away games and described their 5-2 win at San Siro as a recent example.
The defender also tipped striker Raul as a main threat to the defence and insisted that Schalke is a quality side which is definitely capable of beating any team in Europe.
“We'll wait and see. We won't count our eggs too soon. We know that teams can peg you back. There's quality in all sides at this stage of the competition. Players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 are quality so you can't take anything for granted,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to the club’s official website.
The former Leeds United centre-back revealed that his side cannot afford to be complacent at this stage of the competition. He urged the team to continue with the brilliant performances and admitted that United were at ease at the Veltins-Arena.
“It all counts for nothing if you don't get there, or if you get there and you don't win. We need to make sure we continue the way we're playing and when we take Schalke back to Old Trafford, we play the same way we did here and then hopefully get through to the final,” the defender concluded.
Manchester United have the advantage in the clash with two away goals and look certain to play in their fifth ever Champions League final at Wembley on May 28.
