The 28-year-old stated that Lille lacked the winning mentality and that cost them dearly the other night.
While talking to reporters, the former Bordeaux player said that Lille worked really hard to get into the Champions League and such poor start is really disappointing for everyone at the club.
It was a bad performance from the 2010/2011 champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and Mavuba knows that they need to improve a lot in order to avoid more misery.
"We lacked aggressiveness and desire. We worked hard to get into the Champions League and we showed a bad profile.”
LOSC showed some signs of improvements in the second half of the game against the Belarusian side with Aurelien Chedjou scoring a goal for the hosts. However, the club captain knows that that wasn’t enough and has urged his teammates to play to their potential
in the up-coming matches.
Mavuba added that the pressure is on Lille to deliver in the remaining group games, after the defeat in the very first match. And the Frenchman has set his sights on getting all three points from their next game of the competition.
“We did react in the second half but it wasn't enough at this level. We'll do everything we can to make up for this but it was the worst possible start.”
The former Villarreal player said that it’s still too early to write off Lille’s chances in the competition. It was the first game and Les Dogues still have a chance to qualify to the next round.
“We're all in the same boat and things aren't going well for us right now. People speak a lot about our attack but we are conceding a lot of goals too."
