The LOSC Lille captain is not pleased with the way Les Dogues performed in the 2012/2013 Champions League campaign and is hoping for a better performance from his side in future
Lille’s ill fated European campaign came to a sad end when La Liga outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 at Grand Stade Lille Metropole on Thursday. Les Dogues were already out of the competition even before that game but the defeat
ended any hopes LOSC had of bowing out with some pride.
Lille full-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Mavuba-c31174 has expressed his disappointment as the way things have gone for his side in Europe this season and is sad to leave the competition with a defeat.
While talking to reporters, the France international stated that Lille wanted to win their last game in the Champions League to end things on a winning note. However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 denied them that chance and Mavuba feels that his side’s inability to find the
back of the net on Wednesday cost them the match.
“We hoped to finish but if you don't score you can't hope to win.”
The player said that Les Dogues performed much better on the pitch against Valencia but still they lost the game and it just wasn’t their day.
“It's a shame because we did enough to not lose the game – and yet we lost again.”
The 28-year-old added that the Champions League is over for Lille and the need is to move on and focus on the domestic matters. Performing well in the Ligue 1 is important if Les Dogues want to get back to the Champions League next season and Mavuba has
urged his teammates to do everything they can to achieve that feat and avoid such mistakes in future.
“The Champions League is over for us and we have to forget it, close this chapter, and focus on the league with the intention of coming back as soon as possible. We made things difficult after our first game [a 3-1 loss to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-BATE-c39080 Borisov], so if we're lucky
enough to return one day, we can't do that again.”
