  1. Santos Dumont  is the domestic airport located in the heart of the city. If you land there will be able to have a better view.

  2. Once in RIO ask the hotel concierge for ASA DELTA flights and go for one after that amazing experience you'll agree with me that that's the best sight of RIO you'll ever have.

  3. You should try to visit the Christ the Redeemer statue on sugar loaf mountain thats the ultimate view of rio

  4. Unless you are flying by private jet or coming from São Paulo you will not land in Santos Dumont.

But you will drive by it on your way to the city (well, there are 3 major ways, but if you chose that one, the one that drives by Aterro do Flamengo" you will get the best view by far).

The airport was an architectural jewel until very recently, but as always the Brazilian government destroyed it with renovations that were not needed and which are target of overbilling scams.

It's a shame. The International Airport's building 1 is falling apart, it's also a shame to see how bad they keep it.

If you are interested in views, Rio has plenty of nice ones and the Sugar Loaf provides an amazing view of the Airport. From up there you can see the planes taking off and landing.

Also from up there you can take Helicopter rides for about 50 bucks.

  5. I live in rio and certainly the best sight you can get is from Santos Dumont cuz it´s located in downton near south zone (Flamengo , Botafogo beach " sugar loaf hill ", Urca , Copacabana , Ipanema, Arpoador beaches) all seen by taking off or landing.

  6. Well, I've only used the Galeão International Airport  - coming in on international flight - and the view coming and going was great.

Santos Dumont apparently does not handle international service - starting from late 2004, the airport handles only flights to Congonhas-São Paulo International Airport and smaller regional flights.

So, depending on where you are flying to/from, you might not have a choice.

But seriously, can't go wrong with the scenery either way you go.

  7. Answering your question:

Best view: take-off from Santos Dumont Airport .
