Question:

Rio vs Corolla?

I'm buying a new used car and I've narrowed it down to two choices:

1.) 2001 Toyota Corolla; base; drives nice, 53,000 miles; auto; $7400

2.) 2004 Kia Rio; base; drives nice; 30,000 miles; auto; $7200

The Kia seems to be a better buy, but I just don't know about reliability. I don't know much about Kias and I know Toyota is the best.

What car do you think I should I go with and why?

If you have any personal experience with either please give me any insight you may have.

  1. Corolla.

  2. Please listen to what everyone is telling you! I haven't heard one person pick the Kia Rio yet as their personal choice!  There are all kinds of used car books and magazines (such as Consumer Report Guide I believe it's called?)  that will give favorable reviews over the Corolla vs the Rio.  A Toyota car these days can easily go over 200,000 miles with very few major mechanical problems.  I would stick with them as I have had headaches with a bad purchase I made of a 1994 Mercury Sable years ago.  From now on I will only purchase Toyota cars!

  3. GET THE TOYOTA!!!!!!!!

  4. kias are pieces of c**p they are throw away cars, the corolla will last you 10 times longer, it has more hp so its funner to drive and it has a way better resale value then the crappy rio

  5. The Corolla! My cousin has one and she loves it more than anything! I've driven it and it is really great! A good friend of mine has a like 95? Maybe 96 and it still drives like new! Hope this helps!

  6. Hi there!

I would definitely get the Corolla. It may not seem it, since it's a little bigger, but the Corolla actually gets better mileage than the Rio. To be honest, Kias are really not good buys. Their mileage isn't as good as it could be for such small cars, the reliability is pretty bad according to Consumer Reports' reliability ratings, and Kias have terrible resale value. In a few years, it will be worth next to nothing. I know that the higher miles on the Corolla may seem like a put-off, but in my experience and what I've read in professional auto magazines, Toyotas can run for hundreds of thousands of miles. That's my two cents.

    Good Luck!

  7. Kia-

    Pros:

    -Cheap

    -Low Mileage

    -Only 4 Years Old

-Still on Warranty (I am Guessing)

    Cons:

-Kia does not have the best reputation

    -Not too Safe

4 Years and 30,000 Miles Ago, it did not cost too much more than now

    -Build Quality is Lacking

-Resale Value is Down the Drain

    Toyota-

    Pros:

    -It's a Toyota

    -Gas Mileage is Superior

    -Very Reliable

-Most Likely Elderly Driven (considering the mileage and all)

    -Will last you forever

    -Resale Value is Better

    Cons:

    -Older and More Money

    -More Miles

    -Not on Warranty

Bottom Line: Go for the Toyota. It will be better in the long run. Also, it may save you in a crash, Kia's are practically tin cans.

    Good Luck
