Rip Curl re-signs Mick Fanning for another five years – Surfing News
Rip Curl International and the former two-time Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Champion Mick Fanning from Australia have extended their relationship for another five years.
The announcement made today in Victoria did not hide the excitement of the brand over re-signing the surfing phenom.
Rip Curl Group Advertising and Marketing Chairman Neil Ridgway did not shy away from stating that Fanning is their number one guy and there was hardly any doubt that they would extend their association with him for another five years. Ridgeway admitted that
the 30-year-old Australian is a part of their crew and they love him.
Fanning has indeed been a part of the Rip Curl team for over 14 years. Fanning and the brand had covered a lot of ground in surfing during this time. The rise from the young gun to superstar status for Fanning had a lot to do with the support and encouragement
of the Rip Curl crew, something that the 2-time ASP World Champion himself admits.
“Maintaining my relationship with Rip Curl means a lot to me. We’ve been through so much together since I signed with them when I was just 16,” Fanning said. “Working with Rip Curl has brought me some competitive success and I’m confident that with their
support there will be more good times in the future.”
Fanning conceded that one of the most exciting things about getting to stay with Rip Curl for another five years was the opportunity that he now had to work with the brand on some of the video projects that they have planned together for the future. He was
going to contribute his own expertise and surfing knowledge to the projects that are based primarily on the brand’s vision.
The Australian surfer had recently begun his campaign for the latest ASP World Title at Snapper Rocks in Queensland where the first stop of the 2012 elite tour, Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, is currently underway. After getting off to a great start, Fanning
found himself struggling in Round 3 to eventually succumb to the 20-year-old Miguel Pupo, consequently making an early exit from the event.
