Rip Hamilton injures left foot during game against Philadelphia 76ers – NBA News
The Chicago Bulls suffered their first injury blow of the season when their starting shooting guard, Rip Hamilton, suffered a torn plantar fascia in his left foot which was revealed after he underwent an MRI on the foot on Sunday.
Hamilton is said to return to the team when his injury permits him, and no other timeline has been announced by the team.
Hamilton suffered the injury during the third quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, which the Bulls won 93-88. He had to be helped off the court by two players and was not putting any weight on his foot,
but returned later in the final period and helped the Bulls secure the victory.
Hamilton missed much of last season due to a variety of injuries for the Bulls, but was playing well this season and had some big performances for the team which gave fans a sign of relief that their important piece in the back
court was finally playing to his potential. Although the injury is not serious, it may haunt Hamilton and remind him of the tough time he had last season in trying to remain fit.
“Just the simple fact that there was nobody around, they always say the worst injuries are when nobody's around and you didn't fall down on nobody's foot or anything like that so it's just one of them things that when it happened
it scared me. When I felt it I didn't want to put no pressure on it, but it wasn't a whole lot of pain. That's why it was so freaky to me,” said Hamilton about the injury.
Hamilton is a key component of the Bulls roster in the absence of former MVP and franchise point guard Derrick Rose, who is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL injury. The Bulls are trying to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference
till the time he returns, and Hamilton is a big part of their strategy to do so.
"When Rip came back, (trainer) Fred Tedeschi said we could use him if needed. We needed him. I have not talked to them about the injury, we wanted him out there for the free throw situation,” said Bulls Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
about Hamilton’s injury.
