Riposte wins Ribblesdale Stakes for emotional Lady Cecil – Horseracing news
Lady Cecil continued to enjoy her luck at the Royal Ascot, as another one of her trainees, Riposte, claimed victory in the Ribblesdale Stakes (Group 2).
The emotional trainer dedicated the victory to her deceased husband Sir Henry Cecil and said, “It's for Henry, the prince and the staff at Warren Place. I don't have the words to say what I'm feeling - I think you have a good idea.
He was adored by so many people. At the beginning of the week I thought we had one of the best teams going into Ascot and Henry would've been relishing it.”
On the other hand, winning jockey Tom Queally was happy with the performance of his filly and said, “It's been a tough week and I know how people have been struggling. It's great she did it as well as she did. She showed a great
turn of foot. I thought stamina would be her forte, but she quickened well.”
Riposte was priced 9 to 2 for the race and she looked under immense pressure at the start, as she failed to get out of the blocks quickly. Despite that, her speed was impressive and that allowed her to get into a very good position
entering the final two furlongs.
From that point onwards, the three-year-old runner made sure that no one could come closer to her. Her solid stamina allowed her to create a gap of more than two lengths over the runner up filly Just Pretending.
This is the debut season for Riposte and she has really caught the attention of everyone with a couple of splendid performances. Although she failed to succeed in her opening event, she has lifted her form since then.
However, the talented runner needs some more time before she could take on some of the better challengers in Group 1 races. Her confidence level would be quite high at the moment, but that does not mean she is ready to appear at
the highest level. She needs to train hard and continue winning contests such as the Ribblesdale Stakes in order to boost her confidence and force her camp to test her at the next level.
