Ripping non-copyrighted DVDs onto computer?

Question

I'm converting all of my Hi8 video tapes onto DVD's, but my question is: How do I rip those DVD's onto my computer? I have a Dell desktop with Windows XP capability. I really want to have my videos on the computer for safe keeping and to share with family & friends. I also want to get these posted onto MySpace or Facebook. If anybody could help me, I would really appreciate it.

Also, if I'm able to successfully do this, any suggestions for a good video editing computer program?

Ripping DVD I usually use E.M. Free DVD copy. because it lets me rip dvd easily, and it allows me rip DVD to other popular video formats such h264, Xvid, MOV, VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, Mpeg TS, AVI, WMV, and so on.

so I can watch dvd movies on portable player like iPod, iPhone etc. conveniently. it can divides dvd into different chapters, I can rip my I favorite ones. in addtion to, it can copy whole DVD to hard disc.
