Risa Ozaki beats Ruth Seaborne in Girls’ Singles second round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Risa Ozaki of Japan is through to her third round match at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships after beating Ruth Seaborne of Great Britain 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, being played on the grass-courts at All England Tennis Club.
Ozaki’s game revolved around her powerful serve and she made things a lot trickier for the Brit, as her scary shots were poking the Brit behind the base line.
Despite Seaborne’s equipped forehand and the rational start she made to the third set, the Brit caused only a slight hindrance to Ozaki’s solid game, and the Japanese finally took the match in one hour and 27 minutes.
Seaborne seemed to be lacking in rhythm but can take some relaxation in the fact that she plundered the second set from Ozaki, who had played very well in the opening round to make it this far.
The Brit used her distinguished natural abilities, and her raw power, to bully the Japanese around the court, opening up numerous opportunities for her to control that glorious crunching forehand, before losing the decider in 36
minutes of play.
Ozaki’s trademark tennis was an absolute baton throughout this match and the 17-year-old Japanese used this trait it to paint the corners of the court at will. Seaborne had no answers to the fearsome Ozaki serve, never really threatening
to break, and all too often stood and traded blows with the fanatical Japanese but sadly, these flickering shots were accompanied by an array of burning forehands that pushed the Brit down, one set-to-love.
But as the second set started, Seaborne appeared to be in the driving set, possessing two break points to leave the Japanese a little agitated. Her engine finally warmed up, and she certainly had the rhythm as she evened the score
at one set apiece.
After recovering to one-set all, Seaborne looked to rock the Japanese with two break points for 4-3 lead in the decider, But Japanese ace held her serve and powered on to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to set up a meeting with Indy De Vroome
of Netherlands.
Ozaki is set for a first-time meeting with the Dutch De Vroome on Thursday. Both girls are slated to battle for quarterfinal spot with either Donna Vekic of Croatia or Russia’s Yulia Putintseva.
