Rise and fall and then fall of Blaine Gabbert – NFL Feature
Blaine Gabbert joined the National Football League (NFL) as an aspirant and ambitious young pro prospect as all other players have been doing all along in the past and will do in future, but his luck stopped working to his favour pretty soon. Since then
he has been on a bumpy ride, and most of the time it is fall and fall of his career, no rise at all.
Some commentators would agree that it is not the lack of talent that the player is suffering from, but somehow he cannot find consistency in the form. Sometimes, he is as good as any other quarterback in the league, but at times he commits mistakes as if
he is still a rookie.
With mention of the rookie appearance, Blaine had a disastrous start to his pro career, which not only affected him but along with it, career of many other people around the quarterback.
One such mention is former Jacksonville Jaguars coach Del Rio, who had been given tough time by media, commentators and former and current football players and analysts over his persistence with Blaine. He is probably the only person who defended Blaine.
At the end he even sacrificed his job in the same course.
This, however, did not end pressure on Blaine. He should feel himself lucky that Jaguars’ new coach Mike Mularkey, too, has persisted with him as a starter for them in the second year. This could be down on the fact and approval from the new owner given
probably he did not want to open up his wallet during the first year as an owner of a football team, for the first time in his life.
It also added pressure on Blaine to perform and achieve better than what he had done a year earlier. The player was upbeat about preparedness of a new start, in the new season and under a new setup. So was the coach, who had met the player soon after his
arrival in Jacksonville as a head coach.
Apparently, it all started well for both sides, as the second-year quarterback had almost helped the team to a win over the Minnesota Vikings in the season opener, but the quarterback slumped badly after that game.
He has been committing some of easily avoidable mistakes and to add to his worries players around him at other positions are also committing the same mistakes. One positive of his performance is that he appears to be an improved player but not as an offence
leader that can be relied upon totally and during each game.
Even Indianapolis Colts rookie Andrew Luck appears more matured than Blaine. Apparently, all officials have worked with Gabbert on their respective ends, but not to any avail.
It might be possible that he picks up things on his own at some point in the season but at the moment nothing is working his way that he can perform consistently well as an offence leader, and into the team’s victory chances.
