Rise of the booming star Milos Raonic (Part Two)
The steep rise was followed by a short fall as the Canadian’s ranking fell after his opening round exit at Rolland Garros. Despite making a final eight appearance at Halle, he fell badly at Wimbledon to suffer a brutal injury.
The second round showing against wild card entrant Gilles Muller was the last match he played and he is still recovering from the hip injury he sustained during the match.
Currently ranked 29th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Raonic has currently started training and is recovering before the expected time. He doesn’t want to risk any other injury and that’s why the
Canadian is waiting for 100 percent recovery before he could play again. Raonic is expected to make a comeback at the US Open and is gearing up to shine again.
When asked what measures he is taking to improve his rankings, Raonic replied, “Improving my returns. If you look at what Novak Djokovic does with his return it’s incredible. Having a chance to hit with him, he gets his racket
on every ball.”
Raonic is aiming to go to new heights in the ATP rankings after his recovery.
The Canadian had good performance in the pre glorious days as well.
In 2008, Raonic was doubles runner-up at Rimouski Challenger and won a singles ITF tournament. He became boys French Open semi-finalist and was national indoor under-18 champion. However, in Men’s tennis events, the Canadian lost
all singles matches including the qualifiers at Toronto Masters 1000 event.
In 2009, the youngster continued his losing streak after exit from the opening round at Granby Challenger. He snapped out of it at Montreal Masters 1000 event where he trashed qualifying fourth seeded Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili
and eleventh seeded French Michael Llodra to qualify for the main draw and became first Canadian to qualify since 1986. The Canadian lost to eleventh seeded Chilean Fernando Gonzalez and fell to a three match losing streak. He lost in the qualifiers at the
remaining ATP Challenger Tours he participated. Regardless of poor singles performance in major events, Raonic outshined at singles ITF events and won titles at Canada F2 Futures and Thailand F2 Futures. He also shelved four ITF doubles trophies all with different
partners.
The overhead shot specialist, Raonic showed rising sparks from the mid of 2010. He was standing at a seven match losing streak but after that, his stars shined. The Canadian then made a quarter-final berth at Winnetka Challenger
and reached the final at the Granby Challenger. After this, he qualified for the main draw at the US Open and made his first quarter-final appearance in the ATP World Tour event at Kuala Lumpur.
Overall, the Ontarian had won sixty-three matches out of which he won forty-seven in the last twelve months. Raonic had a 37- 29 win – loss record on the hard courts out of which he won twenty-two matches and lost nine in past
twelve months. Furthermore, he registered a 28 – 9 win – loss record in the past twelve months whereas before that he just played a single match which he lost.
