Small Players are coming up in this season of the National Football League. These Players include running back (RB) Danny Woodhead of the New England Patriots, RB Darren Sproles of the San Diego Chargers, safety Jim Leonhard of the New York Jets and cornerback
(CB) Antoine Winfield of the Minnesota Vikings. These short players are coming up big.
The owners of the teams always put them on the plinths due to their height and many times they are discouraged to give up the football for fear they will get crushed, either emotionally or physically. Although these players are weak when it comes to their
performances and impact but one must always aspire as the average American male is 5ft 10”
In the 2010 NFL season, where muscular and heavily built bodies are dominating the trenches, some of the most interesting and biggest plays have come from the league's shortest players .These players run across the field and deliver some of the best hits
with their big play mentality.
Perhaps, Sproles (San Diego Chargers’5ft'6” RB) will be the best among the shortest players of the current season. In week 11of this season, in the Chargers last matchup against the Denver Broncos, Sproles (Charger’s Tailback) put away the Denver Broncos
by turning a short pass into a 57-yard touchdown that gave a fitting finish to week 11.
RB Danny Woodhead (5ft 8”) of the Patriots eclipsed the fight between QB Tom Brady of his own team and QB Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts. He scored on a weaving 36-yard burst and made an amazing attempt on the kick return that incited the Patriots.
The Arizona Cardinals’5ft 7” running back and kickoff returner LaRod Stephens-Howling has two kickoff returns this year. As rookie, Stephens-Howling contributed in many ways, helping as the main kick returner and leading the Cardinals in special teams tackles
(23). Another Cardinals’ 5ft 8” corner back Michael Adams who is in his fourth season with Arizona, is tackling bigger and faster players as well.
Maybe the Minnesota Vikings’5ft 9” cornerback Antoine Winfield, who has scored a TD in each of the past 3 seasons, will be the best tackling cornerback in this NFL season. He makes fierce hits that show his speed.
Brand Banks (the Washington Redskins’5ft 7” kick returner and wide receiver specialist) is the lightest player in the NFL who weighs 155 pounds. He is an undrafted rookie who has a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He is hard-core and does not let
his size and weight affect him. For his Contribution, last year he was named Big XII Special Teams Player of the Year.
Linebacker. Stephen Tulloch (Tennessee Titans’ leading tackler) stands at 5ft 11” which is pretty short for a middle. He does not let it affect him, therefore like many of the league's smaller players; Tulloch is an aggressive, downhill defender.
The NFL is always sporting extremely talented athletes; a league where the ego of each player blends together and creates a toxic fume. Currently every NFL team has players who are ranging in all shapes and sizes. Some of these players are undersized but
they are the game’s biggest hitters. These small players have big play mentalities that make up for their height in big ways.
