Rising Stars in bid for US Open title – Part One: John Isner
Currently holding the 27th spot in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Rankings, John Isner of the United States is among the rising stars of the year 2011 and is rated as America’s third best male tennis
player these days.
26-yrear-old Isner stepped into professional tennis in 2007 and he has bagged two ATP singles titles in his career so far. The American reached a career best ranking of world number 18 on 5th July 2010 but has dropped
10 places since then.
6ft 9in tall Isner is cited to have one of the strongest and most precise forehand in among the current male tennis players. His big serve and ace-hitting proficiency have earned him victories on most of the occasions. The American’s
strategies in the game and his aggressive manoeuvres are appreciated by many tennis critics, who admire Isner as America’s finest tennis player around.
Isner is well known for winning the longest match in the history of professional tennis against Nicolas Mahut of France, at Wimbledon Championships last year. The American took down Mahut in a historic first round matchup at Wimbledon,
which lasted for eleven hours and five minutes of play, with an unbelievable final score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 70-68. It took three days to conclude the contest, with both men registering over a 100 aces in the game but Isner eventually came out as
the winner in the end.
The American has been in a fine form this ATP season, winning 23 out of a total of 40 matches he played, including a title victory at home. He won his second ATP championship title at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships to become
the first player in 35 years to win the particular tournament being the top seed.
Isner is getting back his vintage form in the running season and with the US Open approaching fast, lots of local hopes will rely o his shoulders. Isner has never gone past the fourth round in US Open but a lot more is expected
from him this time round. In the early tournaments of the US Open tour, Isner has already suffered two early dismissals. He got defeated in the second round of Montreal Masters and then in the opening round of Cincinnati Masters in two successive weeks. However,
closing out the US Open Olympus Series, Isner grabbed the title at Winston-Salem.
Although he holds titles for the season, Isner must be under extreme pressure to perform in front of his home crowd as their third best player but he needs develop calm nerves if he desires any success in the US Open. Nevertheless,
Isner is an established player and has got all the abilities to stun any world class player on his day. Hopefully he will have a far successful campaign at the last Grand Slam tournament of the ATP season and will stand up to the local hopes.
