  1. Risk management means understanding where things can go wrong, and then minimizing the chances that they will.

For woodworking, there are probably two types of risk:  risk of injury to you, and risk that the project will go wrong.

Risks to you:  eye injuries, finger injuries, dropping things on yourself, etc.  Think about how you could be hurt by the tools or machines and write out a list, and then put down what you would do to minimize the risk.  Eye and hand injuries would probably be the biggies, and the solutions would be goggles and gloves.  Other possibilities might be hernias, broken toes, etc.

Risks to the project:  using the wrong wood, measuring the pieces wrong, using the wrong kind of saw or nails.  Again, list the possible stumbling blocks and note the solutions.

By thinking things through ahead of time, you manage the risk and help the project succeed.

    Hope this helps.
