  1. Look at every single object, activity, material used, foods served,  fixtures and fittings etc..., and ask how each one could pose a risk to the people using the nursery. (children, staff and visitors) The you have to list the methods you will use to minimise each risk. ie: risk of children cutting themselves with scissors - solution; make sure that children are closely supervised and taught how to use and pass the scissors safely. Foods; risks of allergies - solution; all parents are asked to disclose information of allergies, emergency numbers kept in view of everybody and emergency procedures understood for the event of serious allergies occuring, also consider what sort of foods are served in the nursery (especially important with nut allergies)

  2. Make sure the strings on the blinds are far away from any child's reach such as near the crib.

  3. Im a manager of a children's centre and we do daily risk assessmets ongoing throughout the day.

Things you should be looking for are safety of children within your work place visitors etc trailing wires, unplugged sockets without covers, depending on height of your windows window locks, finger guards for doors ,any toys and equiptment that is broken, heater guards , also if you have an outdoor area you should be looking at safety hope this helps.P.Sif you go out trips you will need to undertake another. If you need any more information please give me a shout.

  4. Nursery as in flowerhouse or nursery as in childcare. If your talking about the flower house nursery then probably water on pavement, even footing/footpaths,poisonous plants. If you mean childcare then locking away chemichals, providing shade, sharp  table corners, any strings or chords.

  5. You can get some general info from this link or you could contact the local office of the Health and Safety Executive who can give more specific info

    http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/raindex.htm

  6. Lots of things. The list is endless. But first you need to stand at the doorway and look around the room. Look for safety sockets, hanging cords, wires trailing, rugs or carpets worn, broken equipment, look for fire exits, ensure that there is nothing blocking them, look at the brightness in the room, check for staff to child ratio's, check all health and safety procedures such as outing, registry, emergency contact. As I have said the list is endless, I could go on all day.  Just use your common sense.

  7. I'm scared. Are you doing these officially or for your own peace of mind? If you are official why don't you know already?

  8. Such forms can be obtained on the Internet.

You are looking for things like:

    Age suitability toys and equipment

    non toxic products

    durable furniture

    suitable toilet and shower facilities

    etc
