  1. She probably has a form a diabetes in which insulin is no longer produced by the pancreas. Insulin takes glucose from the blood into cells so they can use it as energy. So if there is a lack of insulin there is a lack of glucose in the cells, and a build-up of glucose in the blood. This highly concentrated glucose blood enters the kidney. The kidneys aren't able to absorb this high concentration of glucose, so the extra glucose that is not reabsorbed into the blood by the kidneys. This filtrate that comes from the kidenys is what makes up urine. Thus the extra glucose in the filtrate of the kidneys results in extra glucose in the urine. This is a very common way to diagnose diabetes.
