Rituals for horses...?

AHH! its taken me three tries to post this..(it was much nicer before, but now i just want to post the question!)

but do any of you have rituals that you MUST do before riding, or doing anything with horses?

i always have to give my horse a kiss on the neck before i get on, and i ALWAYS have to put on my right glove first if i want to have a good ride(i'm not sure if its OCD, superstition, or actually something that helps..)

so lets hear your weird things you have to do!

One of my friends and I recently just decided that on show days, we go commando. :D

Also, I ALWAYS eat a cheeseburger before dressage.

That's interesting. I don't wear gloves when I ride, just because I can never find gloves that don't make me lose rein cause of slip.

Hm . . . I always walk my horse once around the arena I'll be riding in, in each direction, on foot, next to them, not on them. Just so I can talk to them, let them know who they'll be sharing a ride with. stuff like that. But other than that, I don't really think so.

I always do Jazz's feet in the same order. At shows I am horrible about nriding numbers. 9s, 3s, and 7s are BAD. 0s 2s and 5s are good. 1s 4s 6s and 8s are OK in the right combination. Any 23 is good news (stall number, class number, riding number).

I always run my hand under the belly wear the girth goes to be sure I brushed all the dirt and burs off and run my hand over my girth to be sure there is nothing sharp or pokie stuck to it. You would be surprised how many times I have found stuff you can't or didn't see!

I always ask my horse if he's ready to go.

"You ready to go, bub?"

I also have to give him a carrot or apple (or 4) before I put his bridle on. Heehee.

i usually take at least one picture of my horse with my phone every time i see him... i delete most of them since they're blurry but its still a habit

oh and every time i have a drink in a can, i pour some into my hand and let him l**k it

haha its nothing bad for the horse though, so its ok.

thats all i can think of... but im sure i do some strange things that im used to by now, so i cant even think of them!

I always mount from a jump, one of the boxes, instead of the mounting block.

well i always put the boots on in a strange order. front left back right left back front right. before a barrel race i get really serious and dont talk to anyone, put my dads penny from when he had when he had a racecar (it has a cross on it and gives me good luck lol jk) in my right pocket, and circle my horse twice before taking off always going clockwise, also, when i load my horse in the trailer i always pat his but 6 times i dont no i guess its just a habit? hah

haha, i have to put my horse on cross ties, but thats not weird, i guess its just a habbit xD & i kiss my horse too. the only thing i do is that when i first go to put the girth on, i only put it on the first hole then i walk around, tighten it, then i walk around and tighten up for real. he feels comfortable that way and i love him too much to make it uncomfortabble xD

i always take my horse out for a small trail ride before i take the horse to a horse show. I always do good if i do that.
