Rival teams sure Mercedes gained unfair advantage – Formula 1 News
Rival Formula 1 teams are dead sure that Mercedes gained advantage from the illegal test, for which they went away with a reprimand and ban on young driver’s test.
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier, was really confident of doing well in the championship this year, but his team has heavily suffered because of Mercedes’ dominance
in the past several rounds.
When asked whether the rise of the German squad after the test was a coincidence, Boullier replied, “I don't think so. If we were racing on coincidence in Formula
One I would know it. Two wins out of the three races after they tested, so the conclusion is easy. It is just facts. Two races won out of the three.”
At the start of the year it seemed that the Constructor’s battle would be between Ferrari and Red Bull, but another strong contender has come in picture after the
first eight races of the 2013 season.
According to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, “They (Mercedes) are a good team with a quick car and good drivers. They are for sure a contender between
now and the end of the year. As are Ferrari and as are Lotus, but Mercedes, there is no reason at all [why they can't challenge]. There is a long way to go in this championship.”
However, Horner was upset by the way in which the Brackley based team has got rid of their tyre wear problems. He did not pass too many comments on the situation
though and said that it was on the fans to judge whether the private test benefitted a particular team.
On the other hand, Ferrari are also wary of Mercedes, as the former of the two dropped one position in the championship after the recently concluded British GP.
Team principal Stefano Domenicali added that the Italian squad was not where he wanted and some action needs to be taken soon in order to bounce back strongly.
After witnessing the past three races, out of which two were won by the Silver Arrows, it is pretty much clear that Red Bull and Ferrari will have to lift their
game, especially in terms of qualifying in order to pose a challenge to Mercedes duo of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
