River Jetez to race in Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington where strong competition awaits her
The eight-year-old River Jetez is on her way to U.S from U.K after competing in the Group 1 British Champions’ Series, Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on 8 July, 2011, to participate in the Grade 1 $750,000 Beverly D Stakes at Arlington Park.
River Jetez under jockey, Pat Cosgrave, finished fifth on the day and finished 3 ½ lengths behind the winner of Falmouth Stakes, Timepiece.
The Arlington Park meet will be underway on 13 August, 2011. The race track covers a distance of 1 3/16 miles, approximately 1900 meters.
The Beverly D. Stakes in the fillies’ equivalent of the Arlington Million, and it is raced on the same day and on the same turf race course. It is also a part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series.
The winner will earn a spot in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare turf.
Among the probable’s for the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes is the four-year-old filly Malibu Pier, who recently won the Grade 3 Beverly Hills Stakes under jockey Brice Blanc.
Malibu Pier and her connections would be eyeing the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Handicap for the Carla Gaines trained filly. The daughter of Malibu Moon registered her third graded win of the season.
Finished second to Malibu Pier was the four-year-old daughter of Pleasantly Perfect, Cozi Rosie in the Grade 3 Beverly Hills Stakes. Cozi Rosie is a possibility to go at the Arlington Park and participate in the Grade 3 Beverly D. Stakes.
Cozi Rosie had a lone graded stakes win in the Grade 2 Buena Vista this season, as she has finished on the cards since then.
Another Probable for the Beverly D. Stakes is the Jonathan E. Sheppard trained Fantasia, who recently won the all important Grade 3 Modesty Stakes under jockey Rajiv Maragh.
The pair ran all out on the 1 3/16 mile to bag a significant win in the Modesty Stakes on 9 July.
The pair might fancy the Beverly D. Stakes, as it is also a 1 3/16 mile turf track.
Like Malibu Pier, Dubawi Gold also fancies the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Handicap on 14 August, over the Beverly D. Stakes, but there is a stronger probability that the Simon Callaghan trained four-year-old filly will go for the latter.
Dubawi Gold who broke his maiden in the third attempt hasn’t lost since, and went on to win 2 graded stakes races and one allowance in her 3-year career.
River Jetez will be up against a strong contingent, if the probables covert into possible, but nonetheless, it will be a strong competition for the eight-year-old South African mare who has just one graded win to show for this season.
