My husband and I are planning a last minute getaway for our 1 year anniversary, around 8/5 to Mexico. Here are the choices: Aventura Spa Palace, El Dorado Royale, or Dreams Tulum Resort and Spa. Has anyone been to any of these resorts and if so could you tell me a little about your experience there? I know August is very HOT in Mexico, do you think it would be too hot to go sightseeing? Thanks!

  1. The average temperature in august is 30 degrees Celsius at miday.  At nigh, the sea breeze comes in.

If you live in Alaska it WILL be too hot, but people still live there, so it is not like Arizona or New Mexico or even Boulder.

Aventura is very nice, I like it a lot.

Why are you choosing these places? Dorado is near Cancun, Aventura is near Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras and the other one is near Tulum.  If you plan to stay in the hotel for your whole weekend, i would say... Spa Palace, super great for honeymooners and anniversaries...

if you want to spend a night in town... i would go for spa palace or tulum, either towns are nice.

    have fun, and congratulations!

  2. Wow, you are really spread out, as far as your hotel selections.

I would stay at the Playacar Palace. (They have a spa as well.) It is a great hotel and is the best location in Playa Del Carmen. Playa gives you something to do at night. (3min. walk to 5th Ave, the main street in Playa) If you are going on the tours Playa is in the middle of the action. Playa is 5min. away fron Xcaret and about 40min. from Tulum and Xel-Ha. Other Hotels in Playacar I suggest, Royal Hideaway, Riu Palace and The Royal Playa Del Carmen. There is not a whole lot to do in Tulum at night, nor at the other hotels you have picked, they are isolated from the cities, so you will be spending alot of money on taxis to get back and forth. Unless of course you just want to hang out at the Hotel at night.

Yes, it will be hot, but you will be able to sightsee. It will be in the mid 90's during the day. At night, it will be in the upper 70's with a nice cool breeze.

Check out Playatrips.com to look at some of the tours in depth, also you will need transportation from the Cancun airport. Playatransfers.com, Tello is the best, I use him everytime I go down to Playa.

The Chichen-Itza tour is an all day tour and several hours away from the coast. It going to be the hottest tour, because it is in the middle of the jungle. It's worth the money I think. Tulum and Xel-Ha can be done on the same day. Coba is another ruins site close to Tulum. Xcaret you can take a cab from Playa and buy tickets at Xcaret. Saves you money. Transportation is what cost the money on the tours. Akumal is beautiful and so is Tulum.

Playa is also directly across from Cozumel, just a ferry boat ride away. (40min.)

Alot of people even stay in Playa for a few days and then move to Akumal or Tulum for a few days.
