Riya Jail fails as Aditi Madhav prevails in final round of 2012 Amanora Cup
India’s talented female shuttler Riya Jail could not employ her vital experience of an unbeatable run in the final round of Amanora Cup and faced a woeful defeat on December 30, 2012.
She stood against a compatriot player Aditi Madhav Kale in the title match of Girls’ Singles title match and their meeting prolonged to 29 minutes in local badminton complex of Pune.
Both contenders challenged each other in all departments of game and made the crowd gasp while piling up decisive figures of 21-16 and 24-22.
The young but spirited Riya put an honest effort and walked tall despite of receiving a straight-set defeat.
Aditi Madhav, who was third seeded player in this event, performed beyond expectations and overpowered her higher ranked opponent.
She made her intentions clear straight away in the beginning of first set by prevailing in couple of uninterrupted rallies.
This initial lead helped her to keep the opposing shuttler grounded throughout this segment of the showdown.
She maintained a significant difference on points table and finished first half of the set with a notable figure of 11.
After the one-minute break, Aditi looked bit relaxed as she did not bother to move swiftly across the court and let many valuable point slip from her hand. This unwise approach allowed Riya to narrow the gap and brought life back into the contest.
However, things changed in the final stage as Aditi struck hard and tipped the scale in her favour with 21-16 score.
The second set was not a dead contest as both contenders chased each other all the way to game point situation and kept the audience glued to their chairs.
They started this crucial game, which proved decider later, with couple of gruelling rallies and set the overall pace of this segment.
Initially, Aditi looked in commanding position but then Riya clinched some vital points from nowhere and counterbalance the situation.
She played with right attitude and fortitude to avoid a straight-set defeat but a fluctuated performance hit her hard.
On the other hand, Aditi made amends when it mattered and raised the trophy with an impressive result of 24-22.
