Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista claims 6th position at Indianapolis Motor Speedway – MotoGP news
The Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista scored a sixth position in the Red Bull 2011 Indianapolis Grand Prix.
After a strong effort from ninth place on the grid, he made several passes where his rivals were struggling with traction.
Alvaro Bautista said, “I am happy with today’s position because this weekend we didn’t have the same rhythm as we have had in the last couple of races. I had a good qualifying session, but I was not quite on par with the top guys and that meant I couldn’t
really stay with them and fight in the race.”
In the last few laps, he was tangled up with local boys Nicky Hayden from Ducati Team and Colin Edwards from the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team. Both compatriots gave him tough time but Batista handled the pressure with ease.
Bautista said, “I made a decent start and overtook a couple of riders, but I just couldn’t keep up with the front group. We struggled a bit more at this track because we couldn’t get the bike to turn how we wanted and I think we were not quite at the same
level as some of the others.”
The Spanish rider said about his race day that he was steady throughout the race. Getting in battle with Edwards was his best quarrel in the race which he enjoyed the most.
Finally, after having a tough time he managed to take lead and open the gap from the riders behind him. Considering the track conditions and rising temperatures, it was the best race result he could achieve, claimed Bautista.
The next aim for Bautista is Misano, Italy where he expects to be more competitive from the start of the weekend. With an improved qualifying position, he is looking forward to claim further better results at Italy.
However, the race went under tough conditions and his prior aim was to complete the race, especially after two DNFs in last two events. After the hard work put in by his team, he is motivated to perform well in next round.
