Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista earns sixth place at Motorland Aragon GP – MotoGP news
Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista delivered a stunning performance during the Motorland Aragon Grand Prix and managed to take the sixth spot in the final race classifications on Sunday, September 17, 2011.
It was his second visit to Spain after missing the Jerez event due to injuries.
Overall, it was the third grand prix on Spanish soil in the 2011 MotoGP season which Bautista completed in a strong fashion. Although he did not get a good start but gradually he climbed up some positions.
Alvaro Bautista said, “Today we had very different conditions from the practice and the temperature was much lower. I wanted to have a good race in front of my home fans, so I pushed as hard as I could to make the bike and tyres work right from the beginning.”
From the race start, he was deprived of a good take off. While the traffic headed to turn one, he was obstructed by many riders and was dropped to a lower position. The overtaking was not much likely in the initial laps.
Bautista added, “I got up to Hector and Nicky we had a big battle and fought a lot between us and when I got into sixth the riders in front were very far away and I was still fighting with the other two, so I couldn’t get a good rhythm.”
After gathering some pace, he was able to challenge Hector Barbera and finally overtook him. The battle between Barbera and Bautista was tough which was followed up with a fight with Nicky Hayden. While challenging for a seventh position, he started to gain
in on Hayden and eventually passed him.
While spending half race in battle with Barbera and Hayden, Bautista was finally closed onto Ben Spies. Before catching Spies’ tail, he had to make a push harder than before as the time gap was quite big.
During the last laps, he occasionally rode on to fifth place but Spies regained the position to secure a fifth seat in the race.
Although he came sixth at his home ground but still he is content with his results. He further said that if the race conditions were better, there was a chance to score even higher.
