Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista marks best finish for 2011 season at Silverstone – MotoGP news
Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista marked his best, fifth place finish in the 2011 MotoGP season at Silverstone on Sunday.
The wet race conditions were troubling the experienced riders but Bautista rode to a decent finish.
Rizla Suzuki rider, Alvaro Bautista said, “For sure I am very happy today, because we have been able to finish the weekend with a great result. I have to say thank-you to my team, they have so much passion for what they do and have helped me get back to
my maximum level.”
The Spaniard added, “With all their help, this has been the first race that I have been able to feel competitive since the injury and I was nearer my limit than I have been all season – so a really big thanks to all of them! In the wet warm-up I felt very
strong and had good feedback from the whole package, so I was feeling confident.”
Bautista concentrated on the hectic conditions and finished the race behind Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden. His best lap performance was fast enough for a comparison to podium fight. Bautista had a neat and helpful start in the race which gave him good base
to fight with the front leading squad.
He raced in front for a couple of corners, but due to wet track and water all around the spray from riders ahead, it lowered his visibility and dropped him to the back of the race.
Later in the race when he got into the motion, Bautista started to gallop and improve his pace. He produced his best lap time on a wet Silverstone circuit. The Spaniard attempted some clean overtakes and moved clearly ahead of the back pack. Bautista was
also lucky to hop into the empty spaces left by crashed riders.
With just a few laps remaining, Bautista kept his cool to take his Suzuki GSR-V across the finish line in the same place.
Batista will be looking for good points to improve his championship position in the next event of the MotoGP season in Assen, Netherlands.
