Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista unhappy over cancellation of FP2 at Motorland Aragon – MotoGP
Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista was unhappy over the cancellation of the second free practice session of the Motorland Aragon Grand Prix on Friday.
After a progressive first session, he aimed to carry out a few tests in the following practice run.
Unfortunately, the power transformer went out of order and timely repairs were not possible at the circuit. Even though the track officials tried every possibility to restore the power, but it was all in vain. Lack of electricity on the track meant the MotoGP
safety standards were not meant and the session was cancelled.
Alvaro Bautista said, “This morning we started with the softer compound tyres on the bike to get a feeling of the track. Up until the middle of the session we were doing OK, but I continued with the same set of soft tyres until the end and by then they were
much worn so I couldn't improve my lap time.”
The Spanish rider started his session with soft compound tyres. Initially he was able to lap good times but by the middle of the session, the tyres were worn out which dropped him to the end. He finally finished 13th in the FP1.
On the contrary, other riders changed their rubber set to harder compound which helped them to deliver better times. However, Bautista was still content with his position in the FP1 time sheet.
Bautista has now decided to run with hard compound tyres as the softer ones are good for only a few laps.
The Suzuki team was ready to test new components for the Suzuki GSV-R, but the power failure ruined the task.
Bautista added, “We are really disappointed with what happened this afternoon since we had a lot of things to test: a new gearbox, the harder tyres and a new setting for more grip from the rear, but now we have to wait for tomorrow.”
Let’s hope there are no more electricity failures on the track in Motorland Aragon and the race takes place without any hiccups.
