Roach believes Khan is going to be aggressive against Molina – Boxing News
Although Briton fighter Amir Khan has parted ways with Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach, the latter still believes in the former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist. According to Roach, Khan is naturally an offensive fighter and he will always be on
the forefront of attacking. As for Khan’s upcoming fight, Roach believes the Briton needs to attack Molina in order to win the show.
Nevertheless, Roach insists that Khan needs to stay away from the loop of getting hit.
“Can Amir change his mentality? I don’t think so, I don’t think anyone in the world can change Amir. I am an offensive coach, I think it wins fights. We work of defence, but sometimes a boxer’s mentality isn’t like that,” said Roach, who believes attacking
is the way to win fights.
“He’s always liked get involved in a fight, even when I watched his amateur fights. He would go forward and have success with it,” he added.
However, Roach believes that Khan should not do the same mistake he did last time against Danny Garcia. According to Roach, Khan stayed in the pocket for too long instead of hitting and backing off.
“But if you stay in the pocket too long, you’re likely to get hit back. And that is exactly what happened against Garcia - Amir stayed close for too long and got caught by Garcia, who I don’t think is a great fighter but he hits pretty hard,”he added.
Even though Roach is no longer Khan’s trainer, he still believes in the Briton. Roach wants Khan to revive his career and to touch the acme of success. According to the Hall of Famer, the only way Khan can win against Molina is by attacking and not defending.
Roach believes a fighter can only win fights by attacking and not by counter punching. Roach has always trained his fighters to attack, whether it is Filipino fight rage Manny Pacquiao or Briton fighter Amir Khan.
Roach believes Pacquiao and Khan both committed the same mistake of staying in the pocket for too long, which eventually caused them knockout losses.
