  1. Not every place has roaches so this may not even be a concern.  If they find they do have roaches here's some safe things they can do:

    - Place catnip satchels in areas of activity or spray baseboards with catnip tea

    - Place bread soaked with beer in a coffee can near infestations

-Place bay leaf, cucumber slices or garlic in affected areas

Roaches live in the walls and above the cupboards so the amount of furniture won't matter. Keeping things clean will certainly help, but you can't really do anything about the food sources in those areas.  Food should be sealed airtight not just for roaches but ants too. They tend to scatter when the lights come on so you may want to check out the place before moving in - but do it in as much dark as possible. There's probably no need for an exterminator - a simple bomb or Raid spray application 2-4 days before moving in should suffice.

  2. 1. furniture has nothing to do with roaches... German roaches, what you think of with restaurants and found in kitchen cabinets. Will be carried from one home to another..from work to home...come in from infested apartment next door, is more of a sanitation issue.  The several outdoor species of roaches will be an outside populations that will be coming inside.

    2. That would be a good idea , treating inside and out.  Easier to be more thorough with less furniture to have to work around.

3.once again it depends on the species of roach on why they may or may not show up. For German roaches you can still bring them in on something but they may not get established with the extra sanitation..with the outdoor species they can get through small openings as simple as bad weather stripping to coming in through gaps where the plumbing comes out of the wall.

90% if not more of my customer base has house keepers...some where the maids come in once or twice a week, others where they are live in maids, yet I'll get a few calls each year for German roaches where they probably were brought in from the maids home and everyone of the $500 thousand to multi million dollar homes will get outdoor types that find their way inside

  3. If you live in an apartment you cannot get rid of them unless the whole building is treated .

I would spray all my boxes with a fogger type bug killer and unpack as soon as you ge there trow away all boxes fast .

they like to hide in paper from what I have heard.
