Road Quad laws?

As a car full license holder i am able to ride a quad, yes?

my brother though, only has a provisional car license so what are the laws for provisional riders?

  1. I'm glad you call them quads and not bikes or quadbikes.

    I think because the controls are similar to a motorcycles, you may require a motorcycle test / licence.

    Have a look at the DVLA website.


  2. You need a full car licence (or pre 1999 bike licence) to ride a quad.

    you also need insurance, which will cost you about  Ã‚£120 per year and £55 registration fee.

    If you or your brother intends to ride the Quad on a road, you also need to specifically modify the Quad for this.

  3. The quad bikes that can be used on a main road are legal but you have to tax and insure it the same as you would a car and a full driving license is required you cant ride a quad bike on a provisional driving license.

  4. Quad Bikes on the road are ILLEGAL full stop.
