Alright so I considered myself a pretty patient person, until I started driving. Its only been 2 yrs. Any way I think Chicago has some of the dumbest drivers on the planet. Does anyone know of a positive way to handle Road Rage, because I find that the more I drive, the faster I get Pissed off at people's idiodacy! I'm still pis sed from when some jack *** almost crashed into me last week. I've never followed anyone and I dont flick them off, but if I have to deal with these morons I feel my anger should be placed else where? Any suggestions?

Oh, I even get pissed when other people are driving and I'm just a passenger! Any suggestions for that?

  1. Road Rage is often indigenous to certain towns and cities.  People here in NYC are often leaning on the horns.  But that's as far as it gets.  But when I was in L.A. last month I found that (a) people follow the rule as if they are still in driving school (b) you break one rule and other drivers act like kindergarten children tattle telling and pointing fingers.  But if you ask me it all has to do with daily frustrations of living in a city.

When I lived in Maui (Hawaii), people almost never honked each other.  If there were some traffic delay, they took like very gentlemanly (or lady like).  Partly because the life is much slower in that part of the country.

But now I am back in NYC (for the last 9 years) and try not to get all bent out of shape.  The way I see it, it demeans me more than the other person to let little things in life to get to me.

    Good Luck.

  2. Yes, you need to cancel your drivers license and go for anger management classes.

Then after 18 months, all going well with the AM-Classes etc ReThink as to whether you could be still crazy on the road, and if you would feel safe being the driver of another vehicle around yourself before re-applying?!

  3. May I suggest taking a few anger management classes or moving and getting a job in a different city. That might really help. I know what you mean though there are stupid drivers everywhere. Even here in Kansas where I live.

  4. maybe you should wait a few more years to drive, just play with a tonka truck.

  5. People do idiotic things on the road all the time, so if you want to drive and keep your sanity, you're going to have to start getting used to it.

You sound as if you have a running feud going with every other driver out there. Think about it. They're not your enemies. They're not all out to get you.

I strongly suggest you realize this now, before it's too late. And by "too late" I'm referring to getting into a road rage incident that could turn ugly really quick - something you may always regret.

  6. If I'm alone I just yell and swear all I want (WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED). That way, I don't actually take any dangerous/hostile action visible to anyone but I can release my anger.

When someone else is in the car, I'd just point it out if you need to, but instead of being angry, try to express concern for the driver's reckless behavior and how they are putting themselves in danger.

  7. Just keep telling yourself that they are the ones that are going to get into an accident some day if they keep behaving that way, not you.  I drive around pretty calmly, and if people p**s me off I just ignore them and move on.  I will live and they won't.  I don't really care.

  8. honk your horn more often and use highbeams if you need to.  dont ride with other people, most people dislike backseat drivers. or go to sleep as a passenger

  9. LOL You sound just like me! I am the worst especially when I'm already having a bad day, and I have to deal with a dumbass driver.

I have to just tell myself to STOP. If I don't, I'll probably track the idiot down to a parking lot and let him have it! lol

  10. sounds like you better calm down before your anger catches up with you. Or the Police will catch up with you.

If it gets to you that much ride a mountain bike, lifes too short.
