Road Tax 2009 is to double in price?????

Question

Just seen on the news that next year, 2009, Road Tax will increase from £215 to £430, not only have the Government ignored requests to scrap it because of increasing congestion charges, but now it seems they are spitting in the faces of all road users by doubling the cost.

All this on top of the rises in Fuel will cripple most road users in the country who already have to deal with increases in:

Gas

Electricity

Water

Food

Council Tax

Income Tax

National Insurance

Car Insurance

Interest Rates

Something has got to give soon, as average wages are far too low to cope with all these increases, and as usual the poor get poorer.

It sickens me to read about MP's getting all their expenses paid for everything from paper clips to second Homes on TAX PAYERS MONEY.

I say SACK THEM ALL, after all we pay their wages.

well they need to keep collecting the taxes to pay for their huge pensions  ...  where else would you get a job that pays a pension for life after 2 years "work"??   pay up and shut up... the nut must go on

Not sure about when its going up, a work collegue just got his road tax reminder for his Suberu Impresta and it has gone up to £400, from £300ish when he bought it last year.

no real changes will take place. This is because they make the rules for themselves. it will only change IF ? we  have like USA a box at bottom of voting ballots saying 'none of the above'. get the rest of population to vote as per Australia. Then.. we will see a massive change as MP's no longer ignore voters wishes or will lose job's etc.

  sadly it is very unlikely to happen as  Most MP's are  too happy with current payoffs etc.

As to road tax ,this too will not change a lot , it will go up but I suspect this is the normal , 'prices going up 100% then after a hullabaloo drop down to ONLy 50% increse'. the 50% being what they wanted in first place but now everbody thinks they got a good deal.

  Old way of putting up taxes as they really Do need more money to support the Government spending policies or we go bankrupt.

A lot of us do find the government only interested in taxing us left, right and centre.  They always say they do not have enough money to meet the expenses despite tax increases every year.  Now we know it has gone to subsidise MPs' costs of living.

I have ideas.  But the law will not permit me to speak my mind just like the government does not listen to and care about mortals like us.

Mine doesn't - it pays to keep an old car on the road as long as possible these days - £185 this year, £185 next year and £200 in 2010!

Also old diesels will run on old sump oil with a bit of filtration.
