Road Test Insurance Question

In California, Im am completely confused, about how insurance works.

As a family we have a plan, and my dad paid to insure me a teen driver under this plan. - But he said I cannot driver anyone's else car, and no one can drive my car and get it into a wreck.(the only way i can be coverd is me driving my car and getting into a wreck

How does it work. Is it a policy that covers the person no matter what they are driving

Or is it a car based policy that covers the car only

im taking the road test soon, and I don't have a insurance card, despite being covered

  1. The insurance company covers the car but you have to list the drivers.  So of course your dad doesn't want anyone else to drive and wreck your vehicle, then his insurance will go up.  You need to have current insurance coverage in your vehicle at all times, just in case you are involved in an accident.  You are going to need to show insurance coverage if your going in for a driving test.

  2. ask for a card..if your covered..call agent if ur folks are too lazy to get u one..  insurance comes in all colors...you can get it to drive any car or cover anyone driving your car...but it costs more..for obivious reasions...they don't want every kid in your high school driving their car..

  3. It all depends on the language in your policy. Therefore, I would pay attention to what your Dad is telling you -- not what a bunch of strangers on YA say who have never read your policy and never spoken with your agent about your specific policy.

If you want to "check" what your dad is telling you -- call your dad's agent.
